Too Hot to Handle Up North, Too Wet to Chill Down South – IMD Spills the Weather Tea

Overview
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has released a new weather forecast of a combination of extreme heat, thunderstorms, and rainfall over various parts of India. While North India is preparing to face a heatwave with record-breaking temperatures, the eastern and southern regions of the country are likely to witness thunderstorms and heavy showers.

Increasing Temperatures in North India
Heatwave has been forecast in West Rajasthan from June 8 to 10, with temperatures most likely to go over 44°C.

Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Madhya Pradesh will also witness harsh heat on June 9 and 10.

A dramatic rise in temperature is in store for Delhi-NCR, and no rain is expected for the next six days. Maximum temperatures could hit 43°C by Monday and could even reach 44°C on Tuesday.

Thunderstorms and Rainfall in East and Central India
Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim will also experience light to moderate rain.

Isolated thunderstorms with gusty winds (40–50 km/h) are expected over Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, Bihar, and Jharkhand from June 6 to 12.

Sporadic rain can be experienced in East Rajasthan, Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand around June 11 and 12.

Wet and Windy Conditions in South India
Kerala, Mahe, and coastal Karnataka will see light to moderate rain.

Thunderstorms with windy conditions (30–40 km/h) are likely over Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Rayalaseema, and Karnataka during the period from June 6 to 10.

Hot and humid conditions will continue over Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, and Puducherry.

Monsoon Progress and Future Outlook
Although the monsoon progress was wet at the beginning of June, it has slowed down in its further march. Rain can return on June 11 or 12.

Official say that the monsoon is moving quicker this year than normal, but a temporary lull in its advancement is influencing rainfall patterns.

Residents Advisory
North Indians should guard against extreme heat, remain hydrated and limit exposure to the sun.

Storm-prone residents should be alert for flash weather changes, tying down loose items and avoiding going outdoors during thunderstorms.

Farmers and tourists should keep a tab on the IMD updates for possible interruptions from heavy rains and strong winds.
