Unearthing Treasure: India's Critical Mineral Auction Sparks a New Gold Rush

Union Coal and Mines Minister G Kishan Reddy today launched India's first auction of Exploration Licenses (ELs) for 13 exploration blocks of critical minerals in Goa. The minerals covered would include rare earth elements, zinc, diamond, copper and platinum group elements. This landmark initiative aims to unlock India's untapped mineral resources and to reduce the burden of import. The occasion was also marked by a roadshow organized for the 5th Tranche of Critical Mineral Blocks and the launch of AI Hackathon 2025 focusing on 'Mineral Targeting using AI'. Tender documents for Tranche I shall be advertised on the MSTC auction platform starting from March 20, 2025.
