India and Britain signed a historic free trade agreement, evidence that globalisation is not only alive but thriving. It was signed on May 6, 2025, following decades of negotiation, and it will reduce tariffs on 90% of Indian exports to Britain-whisky, cars, medical devices, and food-and waive duties on 99% of Indian imports into the UK. The agreement is predicted to boost the two-way trade by £25.5 billion annually, British GDP by £4.8 billion, and UK wages by £2.2 billion annually in the long run.

Aside from trade, the agreement has provisions for environmental norms, gender equity, and a social security agreement facilitating mobility for skilled workers. While protectionist forces grow elsewhere, this ambitious agreement highlights how leading economies continue to bet on open markets and deeper integration for growth.
