In a move aimed at deepening stakeholder engagement, the Delhi government has extended its existing Electric Vehicle (EV) Policy until March 31, 2026. The decision was approved during the Cabinet meeting held on July 22, 2025, and is intended to allow time for comprehensive public consultation on the draft of EV Policy 2.0.

Key Highlights:
  • - The current policy, first launched in 2020, had lapsed in August 2023 and has since seen multiple extensions
  • - The extension ensures continuity of subsidies, incentives, and infrastructure development under the existing framework
  • - Citizens, industry experts, environmental groups, and private players will be invited to contribute feedback on the new draft policy
  • - The government aims to strengthen EV charging infrastructure, reassess financial incentives, and define roles for public-private collaboration
  • - Safe disposal systems for batteries and e-waste will be a major focus during the extended period
Strategic Implications:
  • - The extension provides a buffer for manufacturers and dealers to align with upcoming regulatory changes
  • - It signals Delhi’s commitment to a phased transition away from fossil fuel vehicles, with bans on new CNG auto permits and petrol two-wheelers expected in 2025 and 2026 respectively
  • - The move is expected to boost investor confidence and accelerate green job creation across sectors
Public Participation:
Residents can submit suggestions via the Delhi Transport Department’s official channels. The final version of EV Policy 2.0 will reflect collective input and long-term sustainability goals.
