As Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) celebrates its tenth anniversary, it looks back on a decade of achievement in empowering the girl child. Since its launch in 2015 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the program has improved India's sex ratio at birth from 918 to 930 and improved girls' enrollment in education. Yet, with all these accomplishments, there remain challenges. The lack of awareness and uneven application across regions continue to limit its full potential. Also, entrenched social prejudices and poor resource allocation remain hurdles. To maintain momentum, BBBP needs to be aligned with larger gender equality objectives and bridge these gaps through innovative approaches and community outreach.
