European Union antitrust authorities are to sign off on Microsoft's new offer to increase the price gap between its Office package with Teams and the stand-alone Office application, sources reported on May 14. The move will likely conclude a years-long investigation started by Salesforce-owned Slack in 2020 accusing Microsoft of anti-competitively bundling its video and chat app with Office to crush competition. Microsoft's revised proposal includes an increased price gap and improved terms of interoperability to address concerns of competitors. The European Commission will seek reactions from competitors and customers before handing down a final decision, but the deal would allow Microsoft to avoid a heavy antitrust fine and bring to a close the high-profile case.
