American Airlines issued a press release this morning stating that it would be canceling Flight 293, which was scheduled to depart Delhi (DEL) for New York (JFK) on May 7. Instead, it would operate a ferry flight, with the same flight number but without passengers, only crew.
The cancellation is among wider operating changes by a number of airlines at Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport, after recent regional safety incidents. At least 35 international and domestic flights have been canceled while Indian military forces carried out missile attacks on terror sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir. Foreign airlines, such as American Airlines, are among those to be affected by the changing airspace environment.
American Airlines reaffirmed that it is monitoring the situation closely and will continue to make changes to its Delhi operations as and when necessary to ensure safety to its crew and passengers. Passengers who are booked on Flight 293 are requested to contact the airline to ask about rebooking options and further details.
The Delhi International Airport has also issued a notice about changing airspace conditions impacting a series of flights, urging travelers to stay informed about the latest situation of their journey.
