Delhi has taken a pioneering step in neurological healthcare with the inauguration of its first dedicated Brain Health Clinic at Indira Gandhi Hospital, Dwarka. Launched by Health Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh, the clinic is part of India’s Brain Health Initiative, supported by NITI Aayog and implemented in partnership with the Institute of Human Behaviour and Allied Sciences (IHBAS).

The new facility promises district-level access to comprehensive neurological care, offering screening, early diagnosis, therapy, and rehabilitation for conditions such as stroke, epilepsy, Parkinson’s disease, dementia, migraines, and other brain disorders. The clinic also provides counselling, lifestyle modification guidance, caregiver support, and tele-neurology services for follow-up care, ensuring continuity and accessibility for patients.

Health Minister Singh emphasized the mission-driven nature of the initiative, urging Delhiites not to ignore or hide brain health issues. “This is not just a facility, it is a mission. Whenever you face a brain-related problem, come here. Don’t hide or delay treatment. Similar centres will be opened in every district,” he stated.

The move comes in response to the rising burden of neurological conditions, which are now the world’s second-biggest cause of death and the leading cause of disability-adjusted life years (DALYs). Delhi’s government plans to replicate the Dwarka model across all 11 districts in the capital within the next year, aiming to create a “future-ready” health system as envisioned by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta.

IHBAS will lead staff training, standardize protocols, and monitor outcomes, ensuring high-quality care across the network. This expansion is set to make Delhi a national model for integrated, accessible, and forward-looking brain health services.
