Shubman Gill is stepping into uncharted territory as he takes charge of India’s Test team for the upcoming England series. With Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli retiring from the format, Gill finds himself at the helm of a new-look squad, tasked with leading India into a fresh era of red-ball cricket.

Acknowledging the weight of responsibility, Gill described the opportunity as both overwhelming and exciting. He emphasized his leadership philosophy—leading by example, not just through performance but through discipline and hard work. Drawing inspiration from his predecessors, Gill noted Virat’s aggressive, front-foot approach and Rohit’s calm, tactical presence, aiming to blend both styles into his own captaincy.

The five-match series in England will be a stern test for Gill, who has never captained a Test match before. While he has led Gujarat Titans in the IPL and India’s T20 squad in Zimbabwe, the longest format presents a different challenge. His ability to separate batting from captaincy will be crucial, ensuring he plays with freedom while making strategic decisions for the team.

With Rishabh Pant as his deputy and a squad featuring a mix of experience and fresh faces, Gill is set to navigate India through a transition period. The cricketing world will be watching closely as he attempts to carve his own legacy in the Test arena.
