Shubman Gill has etched his name into cricketing folklore by becoming the 8th Indian batter to score a century in both innings of a Test match, during the 2nd Test against England at Edgbaston. The Indian skipper smashed 269 runs in the first innings and followed it up with an unbeaten 100 in the second*, setting a new benchmark for Indian batters in a single Test.
With this feat, Gill not only joined legends like Sunil Gavaskar, Rahul Dravid, and Virat Kohli, but also became the first Indian and Asian captain to score a double century in England. His aggregate of 369 runs in the match shattered Gavaskar’s 1971 record of 344 runs in a Test.
Gill is now also the second Indian, after Gavaskar, and ninth globally to score a double century and a century in the same Test—a rare and elite club.
