As part of a big drive for digital administration and citizen ease, the Uttar Pradesh Transport Department has introduced a 24x7 WhatsApp chatbot, with vital transport services immediately at the fingertips of millions in the state. Citizens can now conduct everyday Regional Transport Office (RTO) procedures like vehicle registration, driving licence renewal, challan status enquiry, and road tax payment right from their mobiles-no visits to RTO offices or standing in long queues required.
 
To start using the service, users simply need to save the number 8005441222 on their mobile phones and send a “Hi” message on WhatsApp. The chatbot will immediately respond with a menu of available services, all accessible round the clock.
 
Integrated with the central Sarthi and Vahan databases, the chatbot provides real-time, verified information for everyone. This assures accuracy, particularly for legal and payment updates. The multi-lingual interface also provides for inclusiveness, responding to Uttar Pradesh's multilingual populace and allowing for access in multiple languages.
 
Transport Commissioner Brajesh Narain Singh underlined the focus of the initiative on transparency, efficiency, and citizens' welfare:
 
This WhatsApp chatbot is a demonstration of our dedication to leveraging technology for the welfare of citizens. It brings the department closer to citizens and is a step towards transparent, efficient, and responsive governance," Singh said.
 
Apart from simple queries, the chatbot provides step-by-step instructions for services such as payment of road tax, transfer of vehicle ownership, tracking of application status, and registration of complaints. This not only minimizes paperwork and confusion but also accelerates resolution for citizens.
 
The launch is a part of Uttar Pradesh's wider digital transformation program, with the objective to provide transparent and timely assistance utilizing popular technology platforms. The service is likely to greatly improve the user experience and make government-citizen interaction smoother in the transport space.
