IndiGo will launch new flights from Assam cities to India's key hubs, filling a long-standing gap for enhanced air connectivity in the state. It will launch a direct flight from Jorhat to Delhi from September 20, 2025, operating four weekly flights.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma declared the increase, adding that the new flights by IndiGo will boost tourism, trade, and connectivity in the region. Besides the Jorhat-Delhi sector, IndiGo also launched daily direct flights from Delhi to Tiruchirappalli in Tamil Nadu from September 16, 2025.
The move will inject economic activity into Assam, particularly into Jorhat, a key tea production, agricultural, and ecotourism center. The fact that the city is close to Kaziranga National Park and Majuli, the world's largest river island, makes the area strategic for increased air connectivity.
IndiGo's Global Sales Head, Vinay Malhotra, pointed out the airline's emphasis on growing domestic connectivity and making travel economical for the passengers. The new flights will increase connectivity to cultural, spiritual, and business centers, and Assam will become part of India's aviation network.
With these additions, IndiGo is consolidating its presence in Northeast India, driving local economies and facilitating travel for locals.
