Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma introduced "Ankita," the state's first AI news anchor, in a new style of futuristic government communication. Ankita delivered detailed reports of the recent Assam Cabinet meeting in fluid Assamese, listing key decisions like naming Dibrugarh Airport after cultural icon Bhupen Hazarika and extending a one-time allowance to tea garden workers, in a video uploaded on May 14, 2025. Developed with natural facial expressions and a real tone of voice, Ankita is a big leap forward in reporting news, combining advanced AI technology with journalism.

 

The initiative aims to make official releases more accessible and interactive, especially for young, tech-savvy generations. Although most attributed the innovation, others worried about job displacement for human anchors. The move is part of Assam's ongoing digital push, after unveiling AI facilities like the state's first AI tutor "Iris." Ankita's launch brings a new wave in media, marking the growing application of AI in information dissemination.
