As the sun rises on June 21, 2025, cities and towns across the globe are reheating up for World Music Day, or Fête de la Musique. From bustling street corners to grand concert halls, the world reverberates with rhythm, melody, and harmony.

Organized in Paris in 1982, this annual event has now spread all over the world, encouraging amateur musicians and professional ones alike to play in open grounds and disseminate the universal language of music. This year's slogan, "One Root, Infinite Melodies," best represents the feeling of unity in diversity.

In India as well, the celebrations are as vibrant as before. Mumbai is seeing a series of offbeat performances, including:
  • Papon's ghazal night "Shaam-e-Mehfil" at Shanmukhananda Hall
  • Sitar maestro Niladri Kumar's "India Dream" at the Grand Theatre, NMACC.
  • Carnatic 2.0, a digital fusion concert by Mahesh Raghavan.
  • A Swiftie Party in Bandra for Taylor Swift fans, with dress codes and music video screenings.
Concurrently, Kolkata's Science City Auditorium will resound with the voices of legends Hariharan, Shankar Mahadevan, Sukhwinder Singh, Rekha Bhardwaj, Sid Sriram, and Shilpa Rao through the annual concert arranged by musicians Sourendra and Soumyajit.

Elsewhere in India, Paris to São Paulo, and Nairobi to New York cities are marking the day with street concerts, jazz nights, and community jam sessions. From a kid strumming a ukulele to a symphony orchestra playing on a starry night, World Music Day merely tells us music is beyond borders, languages, and generations.
