Heavy monsoon showers across Mumbai have prompted major airlines—IndiGo, SpiceJet, and Akasa Air—to issue travel advisories for passengers flying out of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport. The advisories come amid widespread waterlogging, traffic congestion, and potential flight delays.
Key Highlights:
IndiGo advised passengers to leave earlier than usual due to slow-moving traffic and check flight status via its app or website before heading to the airport.
SpiceJet warned that all departures and arrivals, along with connecting flights, may be affected due to air traffic congestion and adverse weather.
Akasa Air highlighted waterlogging and traffic disruptions not only in Mumbai but also in Pune, Kolkata, and Goa, urging flyers to plan for additional travel time.
Operational Context:
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for Mumbai, forecasting moderate to heavy rainfall over the next 48 hours.
Several low-lying areas, including Andheri, have reported flooding, leading to the closure of subways and delays in reaching the airport.
Mumbai Airport has activated its secondary runway to maintain flight operations and advised passengers to coordinate with airlines for real-time updates.
Passenger Advisory:
Flyers are urged to monitor flight status closely and factor in extra commute time.
Airlines have deployed ground support teams to assist passengers and minimize disruptions.
