Prime Minister Narendra Modi made a strong statement about the power of yoga while leading the International Yoga Day celebrations in Visakhapatnam. Standing before a huge crowd along the city’s coastline, he reminded everyone that yoga isn’t just for a select few—it’s for people of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities.
Here’s what stood out from his address:
Modi stressed that yoga goes beyond all boundaries and brings people together. He called it a “universal gift” that helps us find balance and peace, especially in today’s fast-paced, sometimes chaotic world.
He pointed out how yoga, which started as an ancient Indian tradition, is now practiced everywhere—from iconic places like the Sydney Opera House to the top of Mount Everest. This, he said, is a sign of India’s growing influence in global wellness.
Modi also talked about the science behind yoga, mentioning research at AIIMS Delhi that shows its benefits for heart health, neurological conditions, and women’s health. He highlighted how digital platforms and government programs are making yoga more accessible than ever.
The event itself was massive, with more than three lakh people—including Navy personnel—stretching along a 28-kilometre stretch of coastline. Organizers are even hoping for a new Guinness World Record.
Modi wrapped up by encouraging everyone to make yoga a daily habit, not just for personal health but as a way to promote peace and unity around the world.
His message was simple and clear: yoga belongs to all of us, and it’s India’s gift to the world.
