Pedal to Fitness! Indian Railways Flags Off ‘Fit India Sundays on Cycle

In a bid to promote fitness and environmental awareness, Indian Railways, in collaboration with the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, has officially launched the ‘Fit India Sundays on Cycle’ initiative from Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Delhi. The event saw participation from fitness enthusiasts, officials, and celebrities, reinforcing the Fit India Movement’s mission to encourage an active lifestyle.
 
1. A Nationwide Fitness Drive
  • The initiative aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Fit India Movement, encouraging citizens to embrace cycling as a sustainable fitness practice.
  • The event was attended by Bollywood actress Madhurima Tuli, who praised the movement’s impact on mental and physical well-being.
  • The campaign aims to expand across India, making cycling a regular fitness activity for communities nationwide.
2. Tiranga Cycling Rally & Patriotic Tribute
  • The 25th edition of ‘Fit India Sundays on Cycle’ was celebrated as the Tiranga Cycling Rally, paying tribute to India’s armed forces2.
  • Over 15,000 cyclists from 5,000 locations participated, showcasing a blend of patriotism, fitness, and environmental consciousness.
  • Union Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya led 1,500 cyclists at Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium, alongside Olympic medalist Yogeshwar Dutt, cricketer Saba Karim, wrestler Sarita Mor, and actress Sharvari.
3. New Initiatives & Digital Expansion
  • The event marked the launch of the ‘Fit India Newsletter’, a monthly digest featuring fitness stories and expert insights.
  • The ‘Carbon Credit Feature’ on the Fit India mobile app was introduced, allowing cyclists to track their eco-impact and carbon savings.
  • The initiative continues to gain momentum, with Delhi Education Minister Ashish Sood endorsing the campaign’s role in public health and social welfare.
