RBI Approves Reappointment of Dr. Meena Hemchandra as Part-Time Chairperson of Karur Vysya Bank

Karur Vysya Bank Ltd has announced that Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has approved reappointment of Dr. Meena Hemchandra as Non-Executive Independent Part-Time Chairperson of the Bank w.e.f. a second term of three years from the effective date of July 25, 2025.

Dr. Hemchandra, a long-time career central banker, brings nearly four decades of experience from her RBI career, where she was the last Executive Director responsible for overseeing banks, non-banking finance companies, and cooperative banks. Her experience spans treasury management, external investment, risk management, foreign exchange, and IT governance, having established the RBI's Standing Committee on Cyber Security in Banks.

Since her first appointment as part-time Chairperson in July 2022, Dr. Hemchandra has played a critical role in strengthening corporate governance, strategic planning, and compliance culture at Karur Vysya Bank. The Board noted her chairmanship of critical committees such as NPA Management, Risk Management, and IT Strategy, attributing professionalism and transparency in the bank to her.

The reappointment, approved by the Board in February 2025, subject to shareholders' approval and after ascertaining that Dr. Hemchandra fulfills all the regulatory needs under the Companies Act, SEBI LODR, and Banking Regulation Act, is likely to further improve the governance and operational excellence of the bank.
