The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has established a new record in property tax collection, collecting ₹870 crore under its Early Bird Scheme up to April 30, 2025. It is a record improvement over the previous year's ₹831 crore, indicating a robust response of taxpayers to the 5% discount on prompt payment. More than 7.5 lakh property owners availed themselves of the scheme, using different mediums like the GHMC online portal, Citizen Service Centers, MeeSeva centers, and direct bill collectors.

Officials expect another ₹20–25 crore collections by midnight, since most residents habitually rush to pay on the last day of the scheme. The Early Bird Scheme, under which a 5% rebate on the prevailing year's property tax is allowed if paid prior to April 30, forms a part of GHMC's overall strategy for promoting timely payment and enhancing civic revenues. The rebate is, however, not applicable to pending dues for the earlier years.

This year's strong collection is likely to further consolidate the financial position of the GHMC, allowing for better civic services and infrastructure growth in Hyderabad. The success also demonstrates the efficiency of proactive incentives and online payment modes in ensuring public participation.
