India is exploring the use of building rooftops as landing pads for air taxis, part of its Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) vision. The plan aims to deploy electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft in cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad, reducing congestion and revolutionizing urban travel.
India’s aviation sector is moving toward a futuristic mobility ecosystem with the proposal to allow rooftops of offices, hospitals, tech parks, and residential complexes to operate as landing pads for air taxis. The initiative, highlighted in a Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) report, is part of the country’s broader Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) strategy.
Civil Aviation Minister Rammohan Naidu Kinjarapu launched the report, emphasizing that air taxis could transform urban transport by cutting travel times from hours to minutes. Pilot corridors are being considered in regions like Gurugram Connaught Place Jewar Airport, with rooftops serving as cost-effective vertiports compared to land-intensive ground infrastructure.
