He succeeds R Alice Vaz, a 2005-batch IAS officer, who was transferred last month.
Kumar’s appointment comes ahead of critical electoral exercises, including the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, making his role pivotal in ensuring smooth and transparent voter registration and election management. The ECI has directed that Kumar will not hold any additional charge under the Delhi government, except as Secretary in charge of the Election Department.
