Bharat Forge Limited has inked its largest domestic defence contract, worth ₹6,900 crore, alongside Tata Advanced Systems Limited, for the production of 155mm/52 calibre Advanced Towed Artillery Gun Systems (ATAGS) and 6x6 high mobility gun-towing vehicles. Bharat Forge will manufacture 184 guns (60% of the contract), while Tata will produce the remaining 128. Designed by DRDO, ATAGS boast a strike range of up to 48 km and will replace outdated artillery systems. This milestone marks the first major procurement of towed guns from the private sector, strengthening India's defence manufacturing ecosystem under the Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative. Delivery is expected within five years.
