Schaeffler India Limited has inaugurated its fifth manufacturing plant in Shoolagiri, Tamil Nadu, as part of a major expansion of the German leader in motion technology's footprint in India. The new complex, covering 16,500 square meters in a total site of 108,000 square meters, will manufacture conventional and hybrid powertrain components, such as planetary gear systems and hybrid transmission components, to address India's burgeoning automotive industry demands.
The inauguration ceremony was graced by the most important members of Schaeffler's Indian as well as international leadership, including Georg F. W. Schaeffler, Chairman of the Supervisory Board, Schaeffler AG, Eranti Sumithasri, Chairperson of the Board of Directors, Schaeffler India Limited, Matthias Zink, CEO Powertrain & Chassis, Schaeffler AG, and Dharmesh Arora, Regional CEO Asia Pacific, Schaeffler AG.
The plant stands out as a sustainable facility with water harvesting, zero liquid discharge plant systems, energy-saving machinery, and 100% LED lighting. The facility is projected to attain maximum production capacity in the fourth quarter of 2025. Schaeffler India currently has five manufacturing plants and three R&D centers across the country.
It has invested ₹1,700 crore in the last three years, above its initial commitment of ₹1,500 crore, to further increase domestic production capacities for powertrain solutions, e-mobility technologies, and industrial bearings. This is a part of Schaeffler India's long-term expansion strategy and the 'Make in India' policy with the vision of catering to the changing needs of the automotive market and driving mobility solutions innovation.
