India has made a historic move towards sustainable management of resources with the launch of a specialized portal to deal with recycling of aluminium, copper, lead, and zinc. Released by Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy, the Non-Ferrous Metal Recycling Website and Stakeholders' Portal intends to convert the country's non-ferrous metal industry into a data-driven, transparent, and globally competitive environment.

Major Highlights:
  • Centralized Digital Platform: The portal (nfmrecycling.jnarddc.gov.in) acts as a national registry and information hub for recyclers, dismantlers, aggregators, traders, industry bodies, and research institutions, bringing the whole recycling value chain under one digital umbrella.
  • Live Data & Policy Guidance: It offers real-time insights into raw material movement, recycling capability, technology usage, and workforce patterns, enabling fact-based policymaking and filling long-standing gaps in the industry.
  • Improving Circular Economy: Designed according to the National Non-Ferrous Metal Scrap Recycling Framework, the initiative aligns with India's aspiration for a circular economy, minimizing dependence on foreign raw materials and reducing the ecological footprint of mining.
  • Empowerment of Industry: The portal facilitates benchmarking of performance, determines skill and infrastructure deficiencies, and facilitates standards, certifications, and R&D, opening avenues for future investments and reskilling, particularly for MSMEs.
  • Awareness and Participation: It is a portal of news, policy, and awareness drives, stimulating more industry engagement, transparency, and trust.
  • Strategic Contribution: Formalizing the disjointed recycling industry, the portal will ensure India remains aligned with its sustainability and net-zero objectives, increasing the non-ferrous metal sector's resilience and efficiency of resources.
The digital move puts India on the cutting-edge of sustainable industrial development and efficiency in resources.
