Apple is weighing a price increase on its upcoming iPhone 17 series, out later this fall, as it grapples with perpetual U.S. tariffs and mounting supply chain challenges. While a recent U.S.-China trade agreement rolled back some tariffs, a 20% tariff on Chinese-assembled phones remains in place, directly impacting Apple's costs. Despite relocating much of its iPhone assembly for U.S. sales to India, however, Apple's best-selling Pro models are still largely produced in China and are therefore exposed to tariff costs.
Apple will have to justify any price hike by citing added features and design enhancements, not tariffs or supply chain disruptions. With an era of global economic uncertainty and another $900 million for tariff-related costs this quarter, the firm has tough decisions to make to keep margins up before the iPhone 17 release.
