In a sweeping White House shake-up today, President Donald Trump announced National Security Adviser Mike Waltz will be nominated to be the next U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations, following weeks of scandal over a leaked Signal chat between senior security officials. Waltz's reassignment is the first big personnel move of Trump's second term and comes amid growing criticism of his handling of sensitive discussions of U.S. military strategy in Yemen.

Trump thanked Waltz's service "on the battlefield, in Congress, and as my National Security Advisor," assuring that he is sure he will "defend the country's interests" at the UN. Waltz's confirmation depends on approval from the Senate.

Meanwhile, National Security Adviser will be served by Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who retains his current office-an untraditional double duty in modern American politics. Trump reasserted the administration's unabated commitment to national security and global leadership, stating, "Together, we will continue to fight tirelessly to Make America, and the World, SAFE AGAIN".
