India's defense-technology sector is poised on the cusp of a private investment revolution, driven by the thunderous success of Operation Sindoor. The operation not only demonstrated the strength of indigenous weaponry but also paved the way for a new age of private sector involvement and innovation in military technology.

Major Highlights:

Gigantic Budget Impulse: After Operation Sindoor, the defense budget is going to rise by ₹50,000 crore, taking the overall amount over ₹7 lakh crore. The increased funding will be aimed at accelerating research, development, and acquisition of cutting-edge technologies with a priority on indigenous solutions.

Indigenous Tech in Action: The operation was a breakthrough, Indian-made systems such as BrahMos missiles and Akash air defense platforms effectively countering threats. This achievement has proven years of self-reliance investment and reassured policymakers to step up the Atmanirbhar Bharat (Self-Reliant India) initiative.

Private Sector's Moment: Defence industry leaders and former DRDO officials, who addressed the Powering Bharat Summit, highlighted that the moment is now for private capital to pour into defence-tech startups and R&D. The sector is poised for long-term investment, with government initiatives like iDEX and the Technology Development Fund receiving record disbursements.

Innovation Ecosystem: India's defence-tech ecosystem is transforming fast, with more than 400 drone firms and a rush towards strategic collaborations between private companies and defence organizations. The spotlight now is on developing "technology-first" champions instead of lowest bidders.

Global Ambitions: As local platforms become globally recognized, India aims for ₹3 lakh crore in defence output and ₹50,000 crore in exports by 2029 as a top contender in the global defence market.

Operation Sindoor has not only revolutionized the military capability of India but also opened up unheard-of possibilities for private entrepreneurship and investment in defence technology.
