Akasa Air has made history by becoming the first airline to operate from the newly inaugurated terminal at Guwahati’s Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport (LGBI). The inaugural flight from Mumbai landed on February 22, 2026, marking a milestone in Northeast aviation and boosting connectivity for India’s strategic gateway to Southeast Asia.
Akasa Air has become the first carrier to commence operations from Guwahati’s new airport terminal, reinforcing its rapid expansion in India’s aviation sector. The inaugural flight departed from Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport at 13:40 hrs and landed in Guwahati at 16:45 hrs, before returning to Mumbai the same evening.
The new terminal, inaugurated in December 2025, is a ₹5,000 crore bamboo-themed facility inspired by Assam’s natural heritage. With an annual passenger handling capacity of 13.1 million, it is set to transform Guwahati into a major aviation hub for India’s Northeast and a gateway to Southeast Asia.
Ceremonial events, including lamp-lighting and cultural performances, marked the occasion, attended by Akasa Air’s leadership and airport officials.
