The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has also issued a countrywide monsoon alert, forewarning heavy rains, thunderstorms, and potential flash floods over all regions of Pakistan between July 6 and July 10. The alert has been issued due to a strong westerly wave that is likely to trigger widespread weather disturbances, and the government has requested citizens to remain alert and informed about real-time advisories.
Key Points:
Heavy rain and thundershowers are expected to affect Islamabad and all provinces of the nation, including Punjab, Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Azad Jammu & Kashmir during July 6–10.
Flash flood risk is most severe in the north including Skardu, Hunza, Neelum Valley, and Rawalakot on July 7–12.
Urban flooding in cities like Lahore, Karachi, Multan, Quetta, and Hyderabad is anticipated.
The NDMA and the provincial authorities have requested that the citizens stay indoors whenever the weather is bad, reduce travel to a minimum, and avoid water-logged or flooded roads.
Tourists are strongly advised to stay away from flood and high-altitude regions during the warning.
Emergency teams and local response teams are put on high readiness, with drainage and rescue teams ready to be deployed at short notice.
Prospects:
As the second monsoon spell is expected to pick up, citizens are requested to adhere to NDMA guidelines and employ authorized apps for real-time updates. Authorities emphasize that vigilance and preparedness are the best antidotes to flood, landslide, and heavy storm danger in the coming days.
