India have cut the deficit to England to six points in the recent ICC Women's ODI team rankings released on Wednesday. Riding the euphoria of their recent success in the Tri-Nation Series, India climbed eight rating points to 121, six points short of second-placed England's 127. Australia remain in pole position at the top, but their dominance has reduced a little to 40 points with 167 points.
The updated rankings include games between May 2022 and April 2024 at 50% value and those from April 2024 at full value. The update leaves out South Africa's 2022 World Cup semi-final victory, and the Proteas drop nine points, but they remain in fifth place on 90 points. New Zealand (96) and Sri Lanka (82) comprise the same top six.
The update also impacted the West Indies, losing 10 points and falling from seventh to ninth place, now behind the seventh-ranked Bangladesh (79) and eighth-ranked Pakistan (78), who have climbed to seventh and eighth place, respectively.
As India closes in on England, the battle for second place is on, with the Australians firmly at the top of women's ODI cricket.
