In a major step to enhance the role of school students in raising awareness and promoting sustainable practices, the Delhi government, on Monday, revealed that it will rename and relaunch Eco Clubs in city schools as part of Nation-wise Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment) campaign. The effort aims to get students more engaged in climate action and stewardship of the environment.
The announcement made by the Directorate of Education states that students and educators will invest in the Eco Club as Mission LiFE Clubs, indicating a more extensive purpose to promote sustainable habits, conserve resources, and reduce waste. The Delhi government will invest additional resources and take steps to train both educators and students and develop an activity module, with the aim to make the clubs a platform for green innovation and outreach in the community.
"If we are going to solve climate change, we have to prepare the next generation to take leadership roles," Education Minister Atishi said. "By aligning our school Eco Clubs with Mission LiFE, we are creating opportunities for students to not only learn, but inspire each other to implement sustainable practices in their own lives and to those in their community."
Through this relaunch, Mission LiFE Clubs will aim to implement regular clean-up events and tree planting events, as well as increase recognition and awareness through student-run campaigns, both on conserving water and plastic waste reduction. The initiative will launch across government and private schools in Delhi beginning next month.
