Social media platform X (formerly Twitter) suffered its second major meltdown in two days on Saturday, as millions of users worldwide were unable to access feeds, login, or send messages. Problems flooded Downdetector, with over 25,000 cases reported worldwide and thousands impacted in the US, UK, India, and other countries. Users complained of getting error messages like "Something went wrong. Try reloading," on the app and the website.
The downtime has been blamed on ongoing data center issues, with X engineering confirming that a Thursday data center fire in Oregon caused widespread infrastructure issues, including degraded login and notification performance. Friday's outage was significant, but Saturday's outage was even more severe and widespread.
Frustrated users ranted on other websites, with many blaming CEO Elon Musk for the frequent outages and the firm's lack of timely communication. X has not yet announced a timeline for full restoration, but engineers indicate they are working around the clock to bring the crisis to a close.
