Nepal has paid tribute to over 100 mountaineers, including ten Indian climbers, in a grand ceremony celebrating their achievements on the world’s highest peak. The event, held ahead of International Everest Day on May 29, commemorates the first successful ascent of Mount Everest by Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay in 1953.
Celebrating Mountaineering Excellence
- The Nepalese government recognized climbers from India, Nepal, China, Australia, Bangladesh, Singapore, the Philippines, Palestine Territory, and the United Kingdom
- Minister for Tourism, Culture, and Civil Aviation Badri Pandey led the ceremony, emphasizing Nepal’s commitment to mountain tourism and climber safety
- Honourees received certificates of appreciation for their contributions to the mountaineering community
Indian Climbers Among the Honoured
- The ten Indian climbers recognized at the Everest Summitters Summit include Ashish Singh, Nisha Kumari, Anuja Vaidya, Baljit Kaur, Suvidha Kadlag, Surya Prakash, Shaik Himansha, Satyarup Siddhanta, Jyoti Ratre, and Aditi
- Nepal’s Mingma Sherpa, the first South Asian climber to summit all 14 peaks above 8,000 meters, was also among those celebrated
- The youngest Chinese summitter, Xu Zhu Oyun, received special recognition for his achievement
