India’s badminton stars, PV Sindhu and HS Prannoy, have made it to the second round of the KFF Singapore Badminton Open 2025, bringing some much-needed victories on a day that saw mixed results for the Indian team.

Sindhu, who clinched the Singapore Open title in 2022, broke her streak of early exits by defeating Canada’s Wen Yu Zhang with a convincing score of 21-14, 21-9 in just 31 minutes. This impressive win marks a significant turnaround for Sindhu, who had faced four consecutive first-round losses in earlier BWF World Tour events this year. However, she’s in for a tougher challenge next, as she’s set to face world No. 5 and Tokyo Olympic gold medallist Chen Yufei in the round of 16.

On the men’s side, HS Prannoy, currently ranked 34th, displayed remarkable determination by coming from behind to defeat Denmark’s Rasmus Gemke in a thrilling 72-minute match, finishing with scores of 19-21, 21-16, 21-14. Prannoy is now gearing up to take on France’s Christo Popov in the next round.

Unfortunately, the rest of the Indian players faced tough luck, with Malvika Bansod, Anmol Kharb, Priyanshu Rajawat, and Kiran George all exiting in the opening round despite their best efforts.

The Singapore Open 2025, a Super 750 event boasting a $1 million prize pool, is set to continue at the Singapore Indoor Stadium until June 1, promising even more thrilling action ahead.
